The College of Liberal Arts' Lottery Speakers Fund, the College of Engineering, and the Philosophy Department present Human-Compatible Artificial Intelligence, a talk with Stuart Russell.
Russell is the co-author of Artificial Intelligence: A Modern Approach (the gold standard textbook in introductory AI courses worldwide) and the author of Human Compatible, which lays out his approach to the problem of AI control and value alignment. In this talk, Russell briefly surveys recent and expected development in AI and their implications–both positive and negative. He shares his concerns and addresses the challenges of AI.

Stuart Russell is a professor of computer science at the University of California at Berkeley, holder of the Smith-Zaden Chair in Engineering, and Director of the Center for Human-Compatible AI.
