Ring in the New Year with star pianist Maxim Lando and celebrate the 100th anniversary of Gershwin’s “Rhapsody in Blue”! Written in 1924, “Rhapsody in Blue” has come to symbolize the assimilation of jazz and popular styles into the orchestral canon.
Join the SLO Symphony in counting down the New Year as they celebrate the East Coast Ball Drop during the performance. Another highlight of the evening is Prokofiev’s “Piano Concerto No. 1,” written when the composer was just 18 years old. This virtuoso piece is in one continuous movement. Opening both halves of the concert are Hollywood icons: John Williams’ “Hymn to New England” and Michael Abels’ “Global Warming.” The latter, composed in 1992, symbolically refers to the “warming” of international relations rather than climate change.
This event is not included in the SLO Symphony season subscription.
