Using light sculptures and works on paper, Anila Quayyum Agha, a renowned Pakistani American artist, explores her experiences in both her home country and as an immigrant in the United States. While her work is inspired by designs from South Asia, the Middle East, and North Africa, it goes beyond any specific religion or culture and encourages viewers to feel the spaces in between. Agha tackles themes related to the boundaries that divide us based on gender, race, religion, culture and the environment, hindering dialogue and exchanges between different civilizations. Her art presents an opportunity for viewers to embrace the harmonies that exist amidst cultural differences.
There will be a free Q & A with the artist on July 15 at at 11:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. at the Palm Theatre in San Luis Obispo. Reservations are required.
This exhibit will run through October 29, 2023.
