In late 2021, scientific innovation took the next step into space exploration and journey. The James Webb Space Telescope was launched into space on an Ariane 5 rocket. Webb will be the premier observatory of the next decade, serving thousands of astronomers and planetary scientist worldwide. It will study every phase in the history of our Universe, ranging from the first luminous glows after the Big Bang, to the formation of solar systems capable of supporting life on planets including Earth, to the evolution of our own Solar System.
In this talk Dr. Stefanie Milam, a planetary scientist at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center, will share a status update of the Webb Telescope, briefly review the science for telescope, and highlight some revolutionary science planned for the first year of the telescope’s operation.
