Experience a sensational musical event featuring the Cal Poly Arab Music Ensemble's Winter Concert!
We are thrilled to welcome Fathi Aljarrah, a renowned composer, singer, and violinist from Syria, and Ishmael, an Assyrian American qanun virtuoso, as our guest artists for the evening.
The program showcases an array of classic Greek songs, including compositions by Markos Vamvakaris, Thanasis Papakonstantinou, and Yiannis Stamoulis, as well as original works by Aljarrah and a famous instrumental piece by the legendary Egyptian composer Mohamed Abdel Wahab.
The Arab Music Ensemble, comprising of an orchestra and choir with vocal and instrumental soloists, boasts members from diverse majors on campus and professions off campus. Collaborating with the ensemble since its formation in 2006, the dance troupe, led by San Luis Obispo dance director Jenna Mitchell, will perform original choreography that dialogues with the music.
Directed by Ken Habib, composer, performer, and ethnomusicologist, this concert promises to be an unforgettable evening filled with rich cultural heritage.
