Cal Poly's Wind Orchestra showcases specially composed works on their spring concert, including Viet Cuong's intricately scored "Heart on Fire," inspired by the poetry of Mary Oliver, Yo Goto's "Dancing in Rain" and Dello Joio's "Variants on a Mediaeval Tune."
The Wind Ensemble, rooted in the orchestral tradition, offers the audience with Joio's dynamic "Fantasies on a Theme by Haydn," based on Haydn's string quartet. To conclude the concert, prepare to be swept away by the majestic "Pines of Rome," by Respighi. This mesmerizing tone poem paints four distinct scenes set among the Italian pines in and around the capital.
The concert is conducted by Director of Bands Christopher J. Woodruff and Associate Director of Bands Nicholas P. Waldron. Don't miss this evening of musical excellence and artistry
