Taps at Sunset Played in Remembrance
Come and join us at Madonna Inn Meadows in San Luis Obispo this week to see "The Wall That Heals," a three-quarter scale replica of the Washington, D.C., Vietnam Veterans Memorial. The exhibit is open to the public 24 hours a day from Thursday, March 16, to Sunday, March 19,.
You can sign up for group tours and witness a daily sunset rendition of taps by the Cal Poly student trumpeters and Cal Poly Director of Bands Christopher Woodruff. On Sunday, March 19, there will be a special closing ceremony at 1:30 p.m. where a student trumpeter will sound taps in addition to the sunset rendition.
In addition to the replica wall, the exhibit will also feature photos of "Hometown Heroes," service members from San Luis Obispo, Santa Barbara, and Monterey counties, as well as an "In Memory Honor Roll" featuring photos of California Vietnam veterans who returned but have since passed away. There will also be a "Left at The Wall" display of items representing those left at the Washington, D.C., wall.
This is a rare opportunity to pay tribute to our nation's veterans and learn about their sacrifices. The County of San Luis Obispo Veteran Services Office and the Central Coast Veterans Memorial Museum have partnered with Madonna Inn and Legacy Village to bring this exhibit and mobile education center to our community.
