Every fall the symphony holds auditions for student soloists and composers of any major. The prize for several of them is the opportuntiy to peform on the symphony's winter concert. Come hear this year’s winners and celebrate musical talent from across the university:
- Matthew Anderson, bass clarinet – Green: Bass Clarinet Concerto, mvt. 1
- Ayden Gregory, cello – Elgar: Cello Concerto in E minor, mvt. 1
- Julianna Hornung, voice – Liszt: “Oh! Quand je dors”
- Ari Maman, saxophone – Glazunov: Saxophone Concerto in E-flat, mvt. 1
- Srinivas Sundararaman, composition – "The Journey to Safe Haven"
- Mary Thomas, voice – Schubert: "Gretchen am Spinnrade"
- Emiko Wong, cello – Schumann: Cello Concerto in A Minor, mvt. 1
The orchestra will also perform music from the movies! Fantasy and adventure are the theme this year, and highlights include music from “Lawrence of Arabia,” “Pirates of the Caribbean” “Raiders of the Lost Ark” and “Star Trek: Into Darkness."
The concert is the culmination of the all-day Cal Poly Band and Orchestra Festival.
