Now in its 14th year, Bach Week has grown to include multiple performances, vocal and instrumental master classes and lectures, all devoted to the exploration of music of Bach and his contemporaries. In the spirit of a Learn by Doing education, Bach Week gives students the opportunity to perform next to their teachers and other professional musicians. 

Events range from chamber music performed on period instruments to the collaborative performance of large vocal and instrumental works by students and professionals. Free demonstrations and lectures provide additional context for these performances.

Bach Week includes:

• January 18 11a.m. Instrumental Master Class and Continuo Workshop - Guest artists Leif Woodward (cello) and Andrew McIntosh (violin) coach Cal Poly students in instrumental repertoire from the Baroque era, with a focus on historically informed performance.

• January 18, 3 p.m. Vocal Master Class - Guest artist Brian Giebler coaches Cal Poly voice students in repertoire from the Baroque era.
   
• January 18. 7:30 p.m. Akademie Lecture: Bach's Evangelist - Bach Week Co-Director Scott Glysson traces the history of Bach's Passions as a musical setting with help from vocalists Brian Giebler and Ben Kazez, and accompanist Paul Woodring.
   
• January 19, 7:30 p.m. Chamber Concert: The Trio Sonata Ideal - The trio sonata, along with opera, was a defining genres of the Baroque style. This program explores the evolution of the trio sonata throughout the Baroque period in works by Bach, Castello, Corelli, Handel and others.
   
• January 21, 3 p.m. Finale Concert: Bach and the German Chorale - Members of Cal Poly’s Chamber Choir, Symphony and faculty join with guest artists to perform Bach’s dramatic St. John Passion.
